Shasta Independent Living

Shasta County foster youth face a difficult transition into the world of adult life. Our goal is to assist them by providing resources and skills that will enable these young adults to succeed in their daily living after they have left foster care. Our interactive program gives them the tools to not only to survive, but to become successful at living independently.

We have structured our program to provide personal support as a main function including the following:

Monthly Program Bulletin

Life and employment skills training

Experiential groups

Health, hygiene, and safety training

Banking and consumer purchasing

Community resource knowledge

Assistance with college application, registration, and financial aid

Group Learning Opportunities and Social Events

Transitional Housing Program referral

Who is Eligible for Shasta County Independent Living Program (ILP)

Current or former foster children

16 – 21 years of age

Referred by County Social Worker or Probation Officer

Building Independence for Shasta County Youth

Youth & Family Programs is committed to helping foster youth in Shasta County and the Redding area successfully transition into independent adulthood. Through the Independent Living Program (ILP), youth ages 16–21 receive hands-on guidance, life-skills training, and personalized support designed to prepare them for life beyond foster care.

From education planning and employment readiness to financial literacy and housing support, our team works closely with youth to ensure they have the tools and confidence needed to succeed. This program focuses not only on meeting immediate needs, but on creating long-term stability, self-sufficiency, and opportunity for every participant.

Whether a youth is preparing for college, entering the workforce, or learning to live independently, our Shasta-based services provide a strong foundation for the future.
